Stop/Slow paddles are your main line of defense when you are out there directing traffic. They are built to take a beating on the job and come in 18-inch or 24-inch sizes so drivers can see you from a distance. You can get them in tough aluminum or go with the BONELIGHT ACM if you want something that is easier to carry around all day without wearing yourself out.
For the long shifts, we have an 84-inch telescoping pole that rests right on the ground to save your arms and back. If you are working at night, make sure you grab one with the high intensity reflective sheeting, so those headlights catch it early. When you are done for the day, toss on a fluorescent orange cover to keep the sign face from getting scratched up in the truck.
